He remembers it like yesterday. As he was driving to work one day in 2001, Andrew Kwarm noticed a Bermex truck that piqued his interest. After doing some research, he applied for a job, was hired, and has been with the company for more than two decades now.
Andrew started his career as a water meter reader. After a year or two, he became a lead and is now a supervisor.
“Bermex is a fine place to work. The training was tough, but I had a good supervisor who was very helpful. The areas [we work around] are hilly and getting in and out of the truck was hard. Some new people don’t stick it out, but you get used to it and it keeps me fit.”
Dealing with people and keeping calm in difficult situations comes naturally to him. He is proud of being dependable and accurate. “I enjoy working outside and working independently but being part of a team. The toughest part of the job is also the fun part” referring to working in stormy, hot, or cold days balanced out by the nice days.
When Andrew was asked about what he does outside of work, he said, “I am either at work or church” and serves in a leadership position at his church. He is married, has young children — two boys and a girl, and two brothers and sisters in the area.
Vic Ervin, operations manager, speaks highly of working with Andrew and their relationship over the years, “Andrew is special to me. I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for Andrew. I came from the electric side of Bermex and when I moved over to water Andrew was working as a lead and knew the process, all the people at the utility, and everything about the job — and he still does. He has done it all: training, the difficult job of scheduling, misreads and misses, and is well prepared for his supervisory role. We say people make the company, and it is people like Andrew.”
