Using Her New Role to Take Teams from Good to Great: Andrea Hawco

There’s nothing Andrea Hawco, one of Bermex’s newest operations managers, loves more than kayaking the rivers of Georgia and traveling with her seven-pound shorkie (crossbreed between a Shih Tzu and a Yorkshire terrier), Lucy, and working out at the gym.

The Newfoundland, Canada native moved to the U.S. 22 years ago and has spent the last 18 years or so in Georgia. Over the last two decades, Hawco found herself in several roles based on operations and sales management in the construction and portable storage industries.

When Hawco found herself looking for a new challenge – something outside of what she was used to – she stumbled upon an opening at Bermex.

“When I saw Bermex, it screamed my name. Everything that I saw in the job description is what drives me as an operations leader. It’s an amazing company positioned for growth, and I want to be a part of that,” says Hawco.
Now, she’s using her new role as an opportunity to take teams from good to great. So far, Hawco says her favorite part of the job is the people, “I’ve certainly had nothing but a warm welcome from everybody, especially my team. It’s been a wonderful transition.”

As an operations manager, Hawco starts her day around 4:30 a.m. She admits she does a lot before work even “starts” but uses that quiet time to her advantage. “My day usually starts at 4:30 a.m. I try to do a lot before work even ‘starts’ and I’m still learning a lot, so I get to take the time to look through reports and learn Workday better. I break down my calendar, so I can dedicate specific time to operations, safety, and HR – three important areas in my scope,” shares Hawco.

She enjoys a good challenge and appreciates that no day is the same. “We’re challenged with people and keeping the right people in the right positions,” says Hawco. “Our days, as a team, can be challenged with a lot of curve balls, but these guys and gals have embraced, stepped up, and overcame it. I couldn’t be prouder.”

At the end of the day, it’s the support she says she has behind her that keeps her focused. Hawco says, “People are my greatest asset. People are what drives me.”
