This upgrade benefits you through improved technology and helps ensure your natural gas service continues operating safely and efficiently. If your meter is located inside your home, our team will also perform required gas safety inspections during the exchange.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Before We Arrive

  • We’ll call to schedule a convenient appointment time that works for you
  • Appointments take about one hour and are available 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday
  • An adult over 18 must be present during the exchange
  • Clear access is helpful—please ensure we can easily reach your meter and appliances
  • Secure pets in a separate room during our visit

During the Exchange

  • We’ll temporarily turn off your natural gas service to safely replace the meter
  • Our trained technicians will relight all appliances after installation
  • We’ll conduct thorough safety checks to ensure everything functions correctly
  • For inside meters, we’ll perform federal and state-mandated inspections for leaks and piping safety

Verification

  • All our vehicles display NYSEG and RG&E logos
  • Our installers carry photo identification; feel free to ask to see it
  • We’re committed to your safety and security throughout the process
